Lucky Coin: a cozy adventure that snuck up on me
I almost skipped Lucky Coin. The icon looked generic and I assumed it was another shallow tapper. A reader kept nudging us about it, so I gave it an evening, and that evening turned into a weekend.
The setup is simple: you're a small tinker hopping between floating islands, collecting old coins that let you craft gadgets and open new paths. The coin is just the world's currency for building things, and the whole thing has a hand-drawn, slightly melancholy charm to it. There's no rush, no timers yelling at you.
What sold me were the controls. Movement on one thumb, a smart context button on the other that changes based on what's nearby. It never felt cramped, even mid-jump, and that matters a lot on touchscreens. Lucky Coin clearly had someone who cared about how it feels in the hand.
My advice: don't blaze through. Backtrack once you have a new gadget, because plenty of islands have tucked-away routes you can only reach later. Finishing the main path took me a few evenings, and cleanup gave me a reason to stay.
It won't blow anyone away with scale, but it's honest, warm, and comfortable to play in short bursts. That's exactly what I want from a mobile adventure.
