Do mobile adventures still tell good stories?
There's an old assumption that mobile games can't tell real stories because nobody sits still long enough. I don't buy it anymore.
Games like Emberfall Saga prove you can carry a grim, branching plot on a phone if you break it into digestible scenes. The trick is pacing the story to fit five-minute windows instead of expecting a two-hour sitting.
Adventures often do it through environment instead of dialogue. Lucky Coin barely has any text, but the shape of its islands and the state of its ruins tell you a lot about the world if you look. That's storytelling without a single cutscene.
My favourite mobile writing tends to be restrained. A short line at the right moment lands harder than a wall of lore you'll skip on a small screen.
So yes, the stories are here. You just have to pick games that were designed for the way people actually hold their phones.
