Mobile strategy that doesn't wish it was a PC game
Strategy is a tricky genre on phones. Too many ports assume you have a mouse and end up clumsy. The ones that work were designed for touch from the start.
Iron Tide Command is a good example. It's real-time but you can pause and plan, which fits the stop-start reality of mobile play. Commands are big and readable, not fiddly menus buried three taps deep.
Permanent consequences help too. Because a lost ship stays lost, each decision carries weight, and that emotional stake keeps you engaged even in short bursts between missions.
The failure mode to avoid is games that hide their strategy behind a store of upgrades. If the smart move is always 'spend more' rather than 'position better,' it's not really a strategy game.
Give the pauseable ones a chance. They scratch the tactical itch without demanding you sit at a desk.
